How do you watch films/movies?

about the worlds last standing Blockbuster shop got me thinking as to how everyone else watches films/movies these days?
The first Video Library I was a member of was fantastic because the guy who ran it had this knack of knowing all his customers preferences so bar comedy, which is a very personal thing, I can't remember him suggesting a bad film in the 20 odd years he ran the shop.
However it's the demise of certainly the DVD Rental shop that has made it difficult for us deaf bastards. The DVD was probably the biggest invention of all time for us deaf film fans with the bonus of having subtitles so I could watch all those films of childhood and since and actually know what was going on!!!
Yes DVD's obviously still exist but at £10 minimum a pop for new releases it's expensive if you are only going to watch it once. CEX is great as a cheap second hand outlet for films you know about but not great to find those hidden gems that a Video shop owner might have pointed you in the direction of.
Cinema too is expensive and doesn't have enough screenings with subtitles and whilst I have heard Netflix isn't bad for subtitles Sky is well behind with though their on demand section, although this is improving, but as far as I know to rent new movies subtitles aren't on that platform.
Online is difficult as my TV isn't new and not connected to the net. I can download movies onto a USB stick and watch via Blu Ray player but subtitles aren't hard coded on the downloadable stuff I find and Blu Ray players don't accept the subtitles you can add to it.
So how do the members of WHO watch their films these days?

I detest going to the cinema with a passion, would much rather watch a film at home with no fucker around me.

Very occasionally I go to the movies, for the most part Netflix, Amazon Prime & will purchase the blu-ray or from Vudu. Buying the film sight unseen is cheaper than going to the theater I find. Plus you don't run the risk of some cnut spoiling it by updating their MySpace status every 5-mins.

I'm amazed at how poor the quality is of some of the things they still broadcast that were recorded on video as recently as the 80s.
Real films from 40 odd years before that usually look so much better.

One thing I've noticed as I've got older, is that my patience/attention span has gone right down.
I often get 40/50 minutes in, then I lose interest. This is made much worse if it's the sort of film padded out with long 'action' sequences.
Just want them to get to the end so I can go and eat something..

Love a trip to the cinema.
Buy a few on bluray
Watch a lot on sky.
Never downloaded a film. Dont have Netflix or anything like that.

I much prefer the word film to movie. The latter sounds like you're still AMAZED that the images are no longer still.

I still have a large box of VHS movies but nearly all are NTSC format, luckily I have a VHS player that can play those and PAL

I must say though it does have its perks. Watching The Inbetweeners with a sign language guy or gal in the corner is hilarious!!
